Housing Legal Assistant - 8 month contract

Description:

Are you an experienced housing litigation paralegal? If so, our Public Sector client based in the South West would love to hear from you.
 
We are currently dealing with an 8-month maternity contract for a highly regarded educational institute. Candidates should be available from March and be happy to commit to the full 8 months.
 
You will have recent housing litigation experience, preferably gained within the public sector and will work as a Legal Officer in the Housing Advice and Law Team. Private sector candidates will also be considered.
 
Day to day duties will include;
 
- Provide legal advice to students and staff on all housing related matters at the Community Services Casework Standard.
- Assist the Accommodation Officer in ensuring that the requirements of the CLS general help quality mark are maintained 
-  Provide advice to students and staff on how to obtain further specialist advice or legal assistance as appropriate.
- Take responsibility for the planning and preparation of events and materials to assist students in finding and living successfully in private accommodation.
- Keep detailed and accurate records and reports of dealings with students and landlords/letting agencies.
- Review all legislation and changes in policy relating to private sector accommodation and advise the Accommodation Officer on any changes or developments appropriate to the services offered by the Accommodation Office.
- Liaise with other staff services and departments of the organisation especially the International Office, Tenancy Relations Office, Environmental Health Office and Constabulary.
- Participate in events such as residential house search events and housing fairs
- Contribute to the content of the Accommodation Office website as required
- Assist students with deposit arbitration and small claims 
-  To advocate on behalf of students with landlords, agencies and other bodies as appropriate.
- Maintain an in depth, up to date knowledge and understand of all relevant legislation and caselaw.
 
Candidates MUST have a minimum of 6 months relevant experience. Candidates without this will not be considered.
 
An excellent opportunity for an experienced paralegal or ILEX to expand their portfolio of skills.
